Teen Patti has its own set of words that can confuse a first-time player. This glossary explains the most common terms in plain language, grouped by theme.
Keep in mind that app naming may differ slightly from table to table. When in doubt, the in-app rules screen for your current mode has the final word.
Cards and Hand Terms
Trail / Set / Trio
Three cards of the same rank, such as three sevens. This is the strongest possible hand in classic Teen Patti. Example: "She won with a trail of kings."
Pure Sequence
Three consecutive cards of the same suit, such as 5♣ 6♣ 7♣. It is the second strongest hand after a trail. Example: "A pure sequence beats a plain sequence every time."
Sequence / Run
Three consecutive cards of mixed suits, such as 8♠ 9♥ 10♦. Example: "He had a sequence, not a pure one, so his suits didn't match."
Color / Flush
Three cards of the same suit that are not in order, such as 2♥ 6♥ J♥. Example: "Her color hand was beaten by his sequence."
Pair
Two cards of the same rank plus one other card, such as 9♠ 9♦ 4♣. Example: "A pair of nines isn't bad, but it loses to any sequence."
High Card
Three unrelated cards with no pair, sequence or matching suit. It's the most common and weakest hand type. Example: "With just a high card hand, he decided to pack."

Table and Betting Terms
Boot
A small fixed amount every player contributes before cards are dealt, to build the starting pot. Example: "The boot was small, so the pot started low."
Pot
The total amount collected from boots and bets during a hand, awarded to the winner. Example: "The pot grew quickly after three raises."
Dealer
The player (or the app, in digital versions) responsible for distributing the cards for a hand. Example: "The dealer position moves after every round."
Chaal
Choosing to match the current stake and stay in the hand on your turn. Example: "He called chaal instead of raising."
Blind
Betting without having looked at your own cards yet. Example: "She played blind for two rounds before peeking at her cards."
Seen
Having looked at your cards, which usually means betting a higher stake than a blind player. Example: "Once he went seen, his bets doubled."
Pack (Fold)
Giving up your hand and leaving the current round. Example: "With a weak high card hand, she chose to pack."
Show
A request between the last two remaining players to reveal and compare hands to decide the winner. Example: "Only two of them were left, so they went for a show."
Side Show
A private request between two consecutive seen players to compare hands before betting continues, without showing cards to the table. Example: "He asked for a side show to avoid betting further against a stronger hand."
Limit
A table setting that caps how high bets can go during a hand. Example: "The table had a low limit, so bets stayed small."
App and General Terms
Lobby
The main screen in an app where you pick a table or game mode before joining. Example: "She browsed the lobby to find an open table."
Table
A specific game session with a set number of seats and its own stake level. Example: "He joined a table with a small boot amount."
Mode
A particular way of playing the game offered by the app, which may have its own rules. Example: "The app offered more than one mode to choose from."
Variation
A rule set that differs from classic Teen Patti, such as adding jokers or changing hand rankings. Example: "That variation used wild cards, so the rankings were different."
Rules Screen
An in-app screen explaining the exact rules for the mode or table you're on. Example: "Before playing a new mode, she checked the rules screen first."
Putting the Terms Together
Once these words feel familiar, following a hand becomes much easier. For example: "Everyone paid the boot, two players went blind, one called chaal, and the last two went to a show where a pure sequence beat a color."
